Your Fired!

I write this on the eve of being fired. Well, laid off that is. I though I would write about five warning signs that things might not go as planned.

1- Secret, impromptu meeting involving an entire team that your team deals with on a daily basis. Say that an entire team that supports a certain application on the phone is suddenly unavailable. Why would management want to take all of them, all at once for 2 hours during the middle of the day? That never happens, yet suddenly it does. Somethings up.

2- Management time is filled with meetings and countless reports that they have to run about your productivity. One shouldn't have to justify ones own job every week. Maybe yearly but weekly sounds like justification to me.

3- Moving to a new office building and having the director mention that there's only 75 spots for 90 IT people. Not a good sign. Gives the lay offs kind of a musical chairs kind of feel to it. Those without a seat when the music runs out don't get to keep their jobs.

4- Ridiculous boardroom bookings. Management books an important meeting for all IT staff (90 people) in a room that comfortably fits 9. This tactic is called sweatin' out the oldies

5- The HR contact you haven't seen in over two years suddenly makes daily visits with local management. This can't be good. Next thing you know you get re-introduced in a private meeting with them.
