The Wait Time Workplace

I can't believe my own ears. I can't believe what our company is doing to a remote site. Well small site. Not remote, just small. They don't warrant a full network print server so they routed everything down to Texas. That's wonderful, 10 min to print a one page document because the document is sent to Texas then sent back to the printer.  I suggested setting them up on an LPR port. Straight to the printer bypassing the ridiculousness. Managers said they don't want this done because we should follow what the plans are. Well if the plans are crap someone needs to fix this.

"We don't want you creating LPR ports." Wait a minute here. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an LPR port setup for a printer. This is a direct link to the printer. It bypasses the print server and thus the document would not travel south of the border just to save a dime. I cry for those poor people having to wait 10+ minutes for a print out.

I think it's pretty telling when a business considers this acceptable, especially when a fix is so easy. Create an LPR port. Sometimes old technologies are more reliable than the new ones.

Looks like this site will be suffering from Print And Wait syndrome.
