5 Reasons Google Is Simply Better Than Map Quest

Google maps is constantly improving it's service. Map Quest has struggled but remained constantly in striking distance despite being around longer than Google Maps. Map Quest does have more reliable addresses and directions, however they can't competed with Google's feature rich interface. Here's Why:

#5 Map Area Size Is Bigger

Some people claim size is not an issue, but let's face it Google wins hands down in this category as by closing the search window you get almost a full screen view of your map.

You get a full view as big as your screen can handle. Your not obstructed by pointless adds and such like Map Quest.

Time to swallow that size pill and fess up that adds only clutter your website when the purpose of your website is to offer a something such as a map. Size does matter!

#4 Google Maps Uses The Scroll Wheel

Why in the world Map Quest wouldn't incorporate this feature. What is this, the middle ages! The scroll wheel has only been around for what now, 15 years. I like using the scroll wheel in Google Maps. It offers the ability to scroll to zoom right in to what ever your looking for.

On Map Quest I have to use a little + and - button on the left hand side. Why wouldn't they add this? Laziness, that's why. It's very frustrating, and a website should not be frustrating.

#3 Right Click With More Options!

When using Google Maps you can right click on the map and pick starting point and a destination. It then creates a route for you. This is a very interesting option if you don't have an address but know a general location.

Map Quest does not have this option. All you get is the standard IE or Firefox right click menu. Looks like your out of luck, chump.

#2 Faster Load Times

Google Maps loads faster when zooming in and out than Map Quest when using an aerial or satellite view. Considering Map Quest was around a lot longer than Google Maps you'd think they would have faster load times as they had a good seven years advantage on Google. However Google beats them in this section too.

#1 Google Street View

Map Quest has what they call a 360 Degree view but it seems to have limited locations. I was able to do a Street View in Google for a rural community near Ottawa without any issues. I can't say the same for Map Quest.
